Spin Poker™, one of the most popular video poker games of all time, is now enhanced with the newest buy-a-pay feature to hit poker: the Dream Card™. Maximum wagers with a side bet of 5 credits per hand increase odds of winning a Dream Card. If the extra wager is placed and the feature awards it, the mathematically best possible or ‘dream. The thrust is you take regular multi-play Dream Card and: 1. Deal three cards behind the scenes and give the player the best one, in terms of expected value, on the deal. Thus the player is starting with stronger starting hands than a single random hand. Decrease the Dream Card probability.

Dream Card is a video poker variation available on IGT Game Kings. It is typically available in a three or five-hand format which is slightly different than the traditional one-hand games. Dream Card has a unique bonus feature which the players has the option of wagering an extra five coins (per line) to trigger the “Dream Card” sequence. This gives a replacement on the fifth card dealt when the hand begins which happens about one-quarter to one-half of the time, depending on the game.

The machine determines the best card to complete the hand or give the best card. The player can alter the Dream Card through the touch screen. Dream Card video poker comes in several formats. The most popular is by far Double Double Bonus Poker. Other popular options include Jacks or Better, Double Bonus Poker, Bonus Poker Deluxe and Deuces Wild variations.

How to Find the Best Dream Card Video Poker Machine

There is little difference between any two given Dream Card video poker machines. The pay tables and percentage of time the Dream Card feature is triggered is identical from one machine to the next. The only differences are the games and denominations available.

Machine Denominations, Odds and Payouts

The $.05 denomination will offer the bottom pay tables for each game. This includes 7/5 Jacks or Better, 6/5 Bonus Poker and 7/5 Double Double Bonus Poker. Moving up to the $.25 denomination will take the pay table up a notch. This includes 8/5 Jacks or Better, 7/5 Bonus Poker and 9/5 Double Double Bonus Poker. Playing the $1 denomination bumps the pay table up to full pay tables like 9/6 Jacks or Better, 8/5 Bonus Poker and 9/6 Double Double Bonus.

The first number in each fraction above denotes the payout on a full house. The second number is the flush payout. For example, 9/6 Jacks or Better video poker pays nine coins for every one wagered when a full house is made. A flush would pay six coins.

Dream Card Feature Percentage

The percentage of the time that the Dream Card feature hits depends on the game. Players looking for more Dream Cards will want to choose Deuces Wild over the others. On the flip side of that, the variance is much lower at Deuces Wild compared to the Bonus Poker family where a Dream Card four of a kind dealt can be the equivalent to a jackpot because it is spread across all hands. The Dream Card feature occurs with the same frequency with a video poker title, regardless of the pay table or denomination played.

Getting the Best Return While Playing Dream Card

One way to improve your return while playing Dream Card video poker is to use a players card. This is a loyalty program kicks back some of the house edge to players. This ranges from 0.05% to 0.3%, depending on the casino. This is just one part of the players card benefits offered by casinos. Video poker action will trigger mailers that include free slot play and hotels which can add up to your advantage over time.

Dream

Another important aspect of video poker is to learn the basic strategy. Dream Card’s perfect play is identical to the traditional version of the multi-hand game, so if you are already informed of this, there’s nothing else to learn. If you are not familiar with it, then it is recommended that you get the basic strategy down before playing.

Common Dream Card Mistakes

The first mistake when people play Dream Card Video Poker is not being properly bankrolled. Dream Card video poker players must be properly bankrolled for the game to achieve the best results. Each game requires double the amount per hand of a traditional video poker machine. The payout is also half the amount because the royal flush theoretically only pays 400 coins instead of 800 coins because it requires double the bet to achieve it.

While bankroll discipline is important, there is no reason to play too low of a denomination. The Dream Card return improves at the $.25 and $1 denominations. If your bankroll can handle higher limits, make sure to play them so that you get the maximum return.

Always Play the Bonus Feature!

Poker

Another error that many rookie Dream Card players make is not playing the bonus feature. Most of the smaller denominations offer a poor pay table. There is no reason to play a Dream Card machine if you are not going to make the additional five-coin wager to enable the bonus function. There are also generally better options within the casino for the other games with higher pay tables.
